Radiators & air source heatpumps
Reading articles in the trade press recently you could be forgiven for thinking that underfloor heating is the only heating method to use with Air Source Heat Pumps. This is quite clearly not the case and the modern radiator ranges typified by Sensotherms Concept Ultra 2000 offer a vast range which will quite happily provide solutions at a very cost effective level to the low flow and return temperatures used to maximise the air source heat pumps efficiency.
This situation was typified on South Cheshire College which received a Breeam very good rating whilst using the Sensotherm Concept Ultra 2000 radiator to heat the vast majority of the buildings in conjunction with an Air Source Heat Pump.
The feel good factor of seeing a radiator on a cold day particularly in a commercial environment cannot be overstated particularly when they look as good as the Concept Ultra 2000 with its high quality paint finish and top grilles and side panels.
One area that is often criticised on the traditional steel panel radiators is the water content and size needed at low flow and return temperatures. Aluminium radiators are often advertised as being more environmentaly friendly and taking up less wall space, however the comparison below between our Sensomec aluminium radiator and the Concept Ultra 2000 steel panel radiator shows this not to be the case,
Comparison based at a flow of 45°c, a return of 35°c and a room temperature of 20°c and a requirement for 1000 watts output
(a)Concept Ultra 2000
1 DF618 600H x 1800L x 100D 1079 watts with a water content of 10.64 litres.
(b)Sensomec
1 Sensomec600 600H x 2160L x 80D 1002 watts with a water content of 10.26 litres.
This clearly shows the Concept Ultra 2000 to be the cost effective way of room heating in conjunction with Air Source Heat Pumps. A fact that looks to be a vital requirement as the effects of the budget deficit reduction programme is felt over the next few years and refurbishment over newbuild increasingly becomes the favoured method.
